Academic Year 2018-2019 Committee
This year’s Film Society was led by two Presidents with ambitious plans for the society. Luca Ferrara (President) and Patrik Krivanek (Vice President) were an inseparable force who created a year-long impact at the Freshers Fairs and throughout their tenure. Compared with previous years, this year’s film programming was markedly different from previous committees in that there was a noticeable emphasis on screening crowd-pleasing blockbusters which all students enjoyed. Additionally, the Film Society had the privilege of being the host film society and venue for Cinema For All’s Student Cinema Day (an annual event, bringing together university film societies and student cinemas from across the country). The event included a talk from Moira Hallam of Film London / Young FAN (BFI Film Audience Network) programme and a panel of young student cinema organisers. A workshop was held by Cinema For All’s Abi Standish, as well as screenings of two then-unreleased films - Border and A Private War.
Luca is highly involved in student life at the University, having completed numerous short films as Writer and/or Director on and off the course. These include ‘Thieves’ (2019), ‘Indelible’ (2019), ‘Stained’ (2018) and ‘Companion’ (2018). He is now completing his final year studies and dissertation at the film school and plans on a career in filmmaking whilst also maintaining his hobby of cinema exhibition. Patrik, who is also in Luca’s year of the Film BA course, is an award-winning Czech Screenwriter, Producer and Director. During his studies, he became a member of BAFTA Wales and the Royal Television Society (RTS). He is also currently completing his studies on the degree course.
The committee also included Louis Holder (Marketing Director), Vlad Muntean (Head of Technical), and Rik Hulme (Junior Projectionist).
This committee currently maintains the society’s current record for highest number of Freshers Fair sign-ups. (all campuses combined)
UWSU Film Society was nominated for three awards at the Annual UWSU Awards Ball (2019) - Best President (Luca Ferrara), Best Committee Member (Patrik Krivanek) and Best Event (Cinema For All Student Cinema Day 2019).

Academic Year 2017-2018 Committee
The Film Society this year consisted of a large and dynamic committee, operating across multiple campuses for the first time. The committee consisted of Louis Holder (President), Simon Diaz-Cuffin (Vice-President), Lucy Beard (Secretary), Marcus McLeod & Imogen Kelly (Central London campus co vice-presidents), Nadia Sayed (Marketing & Communications Officer). Luca Ferrara (Head of Technical / Lead Projectionist), Kristiyan Stefanov (Chief Graphics Designer / Marketing Assistant), Cameron Saunderson (Screenings Producer), Livan Garcia-Duquesne & Alexandra Larion (Screenings Assistants) and Becca-Grace Shrader (Inclusivity Liaison Officer).
The focus for this year’s committee was to re-energise the society from the ground up, by creating - for the first time - a unified social media portfolio across all the main platforms used by students. This coincided with the launch of a new, dedicated website which featured information on upcoming screenings, events and committee/society information. The society also featured prominently at Freshers Fairs and had two experimental focusses the committee wanted to pilot during its tenure. These were: launching free tickets and access to University Alumni, driven by a desire to connect with society alumni and past film society committees, as well as launching bi-weekly film screenings at Regents’ campus to connect more broadly with students across Central London Campuses, which complemented the core screening activity at Harrow Campus.
This committee currently maintains the society’s current record for both the highest total number of students attending screenings and the highest number of screenings in a single committee tenure (academic year).
UWSU Film Society won Society of the Year 2018 at the Annual UWSU Awards Ball. It was also nominated for Most Improved Society of the Year, Committee Member of the Year twice (Simon Diaz-Cuffin, Becca-Grace Shrader) and President of the Year (Louis Holder).

During their time at the University, Bishakha was Features Editor for student-union newspaper publication ‘The QH’ (Quintin Hogg) and also managed the careers website, updating opportunities and producing content for The CEC (Creative Enterprise Centre) based at the Harrow Campus. She is now working as an English Teacher in Russia. Laura was a student on the Film BA course specialising in the role of Script Supervisor on numerous productions. She currently works at the public service broadcasting organisation of Portgual - RTP (Radio e Televisao de Portugal).

Academic Year 2014-2015 Committee
Film Society was run by Tom Beale (President) and Co Vice-Presidents Jordn Bastian and Guy Harvey in Academic Year 2014-2015. Tom Beale, who graduated with a First Class Honours from the Film BA course, specialised in Sound. He has worked on numerous film productions as recordist, boom operator, sound editor and re-recording mixer and worked on sound for films such as Monday (Protagonist Pictures), Wounds (Annapurna Pictures) and Hurricane (Kaleidoscope Productions).
Jordn, who was also in Tom and Guy’s year, specialised in Production Design and worked on award-winning Ipswich-based 16mm short film ‘Charity’ (2014) and was production designer on the award-winning graduation film ‘Offside’ (2015) directed by acclaimed, upcoming director and fellow graduate of the course Jimmy Dean. Guy Harvey specialised in Advanced Screenwriting on the course as well as an Art Assistant in the Film Industry and continues to help students on the film course with set construction and design.
Their committee’s legacy at Film Society is still felt today and began with creating an iconic look for Film Society with new graphics, a programme which looked ahead through the semester and most importantly cementing Tuesdays as the definitive weekly screening time in the Harrow Campus Auditorium.
